The Project: Various
Theater Sets including La Boheme, Enigma Variation,
and Battle Drum
The Client: The
Palladium at St. Petersburg College, Banyan Theater
in
Sarasota, and Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, respectively
Materials Used: Wood fabrication, Styrofoam
and custom scenic artwork
The Process: Working
with standard plans, the MDM Display & Design Services,
Inc.'s team collaborates with a particular theater's
production
department to fabricate the set that meets their aesthetic
as well as functional needs. From wagon spinning set
changes to special effects such as the snow machines
used in La Boheme, all mechanics are devised under MDM's
supervision in conjunction with the show's technical
staff.
Our
designers are also dedicated to making each set's design
as authentic as possible. For example, since the Enigma
Variation storyline takes place in
Ann Arbor, actual Ann Arbor birch wood was incorporated
to make the set as visually true-to-form as possible.
Each custom theater stage set is built at MDM's workshop,
and then shipped to the respective theater for re-assembly.
Final adjustments are made and the theater's staff is
trained in the working mechanics of the set on site.
