The Project: Shipping crates and bars for an
African safari-themed event
The Client: Bay
Stage Lighting, a Tampa, FL based lighting and production
company
Materials Used: Wood, aluminum
The Process: Facilitating
lighting and production for one of Tampa Bay's best-known
annual events, Bay Stage Lighting brought in MDM Display
& Design Services, Inc. to create custom kiosk bar
set ups. Keeping with the night's
African safari theme, our Design Department produced
sets of shipping crate portable bar shells and accompanying
cages that would stage tiger-costumed performers behind
each bar. Starting with raw materials of cut wood planks
and aluminum bars, MDM used a multi-step aging process
that included sanding and grinding to create rivets
and imperfections. Next, each prop piece was washed
with several coats of watered down paint progressing
from darker to lighter shades resulting in an authentically
stressed, aged look. Finally, logos were stenciled on
providing branding opportunities for the event's sponsors.
